You can do this by placing wood and cement block or even wedges. Wedges can easily be purchases from pharmacies. This is also going to ensure that the acid is not going to be transported.


• Avoid smoking and products that consist of nicotine, such as nicotine gum. Smoking is also going to decrease the ability of the lower sphincter to function in a proper and regular manner.

 If you suffer from heartburn, you want to do all you can to alleviate it. This isn’t the type of health concern that you want to allow to continue. Swallowing it fast can result in too much air being taken into your body along with the food. That can result in more acid being produced. Never skip meals so that you won’t be starving when you sit down to eat.

Pay close attention to portion sizes when it comes to your meals. Eating frequently throughout the day but eating smaller amounts at each time can aid in the digestive process too. Such changes can help you to avoid problems with heartburn in the future.

There are some foods that have been identified as triggers for heartburn. You want to avoid caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, tomatoes, and juices that contain citrus in them. Endoscopy

The images will show up on a screen as they are moving the camera around. In many instances a sample of the tissue in the esophagus is removed during an edoscopy. Then testing can be conducted in it as well.

Ambulatory Acid Test

Finding out how much acid is present in the esophagus is very important too. This can be determined through an ambulatory acid test. This process involves a tube being inserted through the nose and then pushed down into the esophagus. You will need to allow it to remain in place for about 48 hours.

You will have a monitor that you carry around with you in your pocket. This will measure the amount of acid in the esophagus during that span of time. Such testing results give accurate information better than just testing the level of acid in the esophagus at the time of testing.

Treatment Options

Once a full assessment and diagnosis has been completed your doctor can explore treatment options with you. The use of over the counter products may be recommended to start with. Typically this is along with changing your diet and some lifestyle changes. For example if you drink or smoke those habits need to be eliminated.

If over the counter products don’t work for you then at your follow up appointment prescription medications may be offered. Some of them are expensive and they can have an array of side effects associated with them. If the damage to the digestive tract is severe due to acid reflux your doctor may recommend surgery to improve your condition.
