Learning Your Metabolic Type To Improve Health

I know there is lots of information out there about dieting and how to eat right to have optimum health. One thing I have learned for sure is that everyone is different. For instance, I found out I was a fast oxidizer or fast metabolizer. When I was young I could eat forever and never put on a pound. A fast metabolizer does not make a good vegetarian. We need foods that are high in proteins and fat. Go figure.

I gain weight on carbs no matter how healthy they are. Whenever I eat a high carb meal or something with sugar in it, I just don’t feel good. It makes me feel sluggish. But meat and fat feel good. I have more energy. My hypoglycemia is under control. I would rather be a vegetarian but it just doesn’t work for me.

Slow metabolizers make great vegetarians. Then there is also the middle of the road person who is neither slow or fast and they can eat a combination of both, or I guess you can say, they can pretty much eat anything.

I went vegetarian for about six months once and I was jittery all the time, tired, nervous and extremely cold. I was always freezing and just felt generally sick. I finally quit and went back to eating meats, eggs, cheeses and butter and felt much better almost immediately.

This is why no one diet ever works for everyone. We are all different. It has a lot to do with our backgrounds, where we came from and how our ancestors ate. My family for as far back as I can remember or have heard about ate a lot of meat, butter, cheeses, gravies, etc. Today we are told this is an unhealthy way to eat, but my great grandfather lived to be 99 years old and was still physically active till he died.

If you want to find out more about metabolism and how it effects how you should eat, there is a book called “The Metabolic Typing Diet.” It helped me a lot. I feel great when I eat according to my body type.

Natural Help for Your Wrinkles

If you have wrinkly or dry skin, here are a couple of things that might be helpful to you.

Emu oil and aloe vera gel can hydrate the skin reducing wrinkles and making the skin look softer and healthier. Wrinkles are usely caused by dry skin, smoking cigarettes, over exposure of the sun and aging. Whatever the cause it will definitely help to rehydrate your skin, making it more elastic, younger looking and healthier.

Extra virgin organic coconut oil taken internally and rubbed directly on the skin promotes healthy skin and reduces wrinkles. Coconut oil is also good for healing eczema. I actually take a teaspoon of coconut oil by itself twice a day and have found that my skin is much softer and my legs are no longer dry and flakey as they used to be.

Relieving Gout Pain

Here are some things you can do to relieve gout pain:

You can make a charcoal/flaxseed poultice. You mix 1/2 cup activated powdered charcoal and 3 tablespoons finely ground flaxseed. Add warm water until you create a paste. Put the paste directly on the affected area and cover with a cloth or some plastic. Change the dressing every four hours or leave on over night. Be sure to cover the poultice carefully as charcoal can stain your bedding or clothing. You can also take activated charcoal orally to lower uric acid levels. Take 1/2 teaspoon when you first wake up, at mid-morning, at mid-afternoon and again at bedtime.

You can use a castor oil pack. Soak a piece of white flannel in warm castor oil, wring out excess and place over the affected area. You then cover it with plastic wrap and apply heat using a heating pad or hot water bottle. Do this twice daily for about one hour.

Reduce pain by alternating hot and cold applications. Soak the joint in hot water for three minutes and then in cold water for a half minute. Do this about three times,

Use an epsom salt foot bath. Put 2 to 3 tablespoons of epsom salts in a pan or basin of hot water big enough to put your foot in. Soak your foot for about a 1/2 hour. You can also take a whole body bath in epsom salts. This is especially helpful if the gout pain is in another part of the body. There are usually instructions on the epsom salts package but you should use about one or two cups.

Supplements — Know What Your Using Them For

Supplements can be wonderful in helping you regain your health but you need to know what you are using them for. I have wasted a lot of money on supplements because I bought so many I didn’t need and quite a few that actually made things worse. I discovered that anything with licorice root or any other supplement or herb that stimulated the addrenals would cause bad reactions. I was producing large amounts of adrenaline and what I needed was something to relax and nurish my adrenals not stimulate.

Know what you are taking supplements for and use them wisely. If you have a sinus infection or gout, then it is easy to know what to take. But when you don’t know what’s wrong you may take something that is counter productive and makes your situation worse.

I love supplements because they can do amazing things, but find out exactly what you need. It will save you a lot of money and a lot of wasted time. Work with your doctor to run the necessary tests to find out what is wrong when you just don’t know. And be sure to do a lot of research to find out the best supplements and herbs to help your specific problem. Stop wasting time and money on what doesn’t work.

Things You Can Do To Prevent Canker Sores

I had canker sores for many years but almost never have them any more. The number one thing you can do to keep from having canker sores is to boost your immune system and stop eating sugary foods. Another thing you can do is eat yoghurt every day. Several people have said that they no longer have canker sores when they eat yoghurt daily. Make sure the yoghurt has live cultures. Some toothpastes can cause canker sores, especially ones with sodium lauryl sulfate. Change to a more natural toothpaste.

Vitamin C for Allegies Turned Into An Experiment for The Common Cold

My last blog talked about using high doses of vitamin C to help control seasonal allergies. Well you know how sometimes allergies and colds feel about the same? It turns out that I had a cold and not an allergy attack. There is a really bad cold going around in our area that lasts up to three weeks for most people and includes horrendous bouts of coughing. Everyone who gets this cold is just miserable.

There was no reason not to continue to use the vitamin C as it boosts the immune system, and so I went ahead and kept taking the vitamin C at levels of about 10 grams a day. The results were excellent. I never coughed very much or sneezed very much — unlike others with this particular cold — and the cold was gone in about a week. I have a history of having the worst possible reaction to colds I have contracted. This was a great experience. I think I’m hooked on vitamin C.

I found out about using high doses of vitamin C to help in fighting off flues, colds and allergies through my research on Dr. Linus Pauling. If you want to find out more about his research, just Google his name. I read how other people have used this technique with great results. Some people are saying that if you start taking high doses as soon as you suspect you are coming down with a cold or flu, it can sometimes prevent you from getting it.

A New Approach to Seasonal Allergies

I always have allergies either in May or June every year. This year it was May. Just this week I came down with severe allergies — sneezing and blowing and feeling just awful. Anyway, just recently I had read a lot of information about Linus Pauling and his research on vitamin C. And since I like to do everything naturally, I decided to try high doses of vitamin C to see if it would help with my symptoms.

Yesterday I took 10 grams in divided doses throughout the day. I started out with a very runny nose and sneezing and feeling really sick and rundown. I gradually improved throughout the day. My nose quit running by early afternoon and by early evening I could breath through my nose. I slept well last night and didn’t wake up sneezing.

Today I still am experiencing allergies but the symptoms are under control. I don’t have to blow my nose every few minutes — in fact I haven’t blown my nose all morning. The allergies aren’t gone but they are at a level that is much more tolerable. I am still taking the vitamin C at very high levels and I’ll see how things go. I’m pretty optimistic.

If you take more vitamin C than you need, it will cause diarrhea. But when your body needs vitamin C to fight off allergies or a virus you can take very high doses without this lovely side effect. I took 10 grams yesterday with no ill effects. I am going to try a little higher dosage today to see what happens.

Two Health Problems That May Be The Underlying Causes To Many of Today’s Chronic or Degenerative Diseases

In my research recently on autism, ADHD/ADD, arthritis and Alzheimer’s disease there were two health issues that I kept running into as causative factors of these particular health problems and other degenerative or chronic illnesses. They were heavy metal poisoning, particularly mercury, lead and aluminum, and poor intestinal health such as leaky gut syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome and colitis. When these two things are addressed there is almost always a significant improvement in health or a complete cure.

I personally had both heavy metal poisoning (mercury and lead), leaky gut syndrome and irritable bowel syndrome. My particular health problems were chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and adrenal gland insufficiency leading to severe anxiety and almost adrenal failure. Our bodies respond to heavy metals and poor digestion in different ways according to where our bodies are weakest or how high an exposure to heavy metals.

By researching online I have found a lot of people healing themselves through chelation therapies for removing heavy metals from their body and by following protocols to improve their intestinal health. It’s amazing stuff.

The causes of poor intestinal health can be multiple food allergies, candida overgrowth due to poor diet and overuse of antibiotics, parasites, etc. The causes of heavy metal poisoning are dental amalgams (mercury), air pollution, inks used in printed materials, cosmetics, underarm deodorant, cooking pots and pans, aluminum foil, perfumes, vaccinations and many more ways.

Anyway, I just found it very interesting that these two health issues kept coming up as possible causes for many degenerative and chronic illnesses. It’s definitely something to look into if you are suffering with this type of health problem.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Hives

Right around Christmas last year I came down with hives. I have never had hives before and am pretty sure I don’t want to have them again. They were all over my legs, arms, stomach and back in clusters. Yikes!

It was hard to find the cause but I finally did. It was our Christmas tree. We bought it in one of the Christmas tree lots here in town. After doing some research I discovered that commercially grown trees can be loaded with pesticides and other chemicals to keep insects off and to keep them looking so perfect. There are a lot of people who get hives from these trees. We had to put the tree out on the front porch for our neighbors to enjoy.

Although I quit getting any new hives it was hard to get rid of the ones I had. I started putting hydrogen peroxide directly on the hives with a piece of gauze about three times a day. It really helped calm the itchiness and within a couple days the hives were gone. I love my hydrogen peroxide.

Hydrogen peroxide is great to have around. It helps in healing cuts and insect bites, it sanitizes, it kills mold, it cures boils, etc. Do some research and find out all the ways you can use hydrogen peroxide.

Starve Candida Albicans Through Diet

This diet may seem unusual to you but it will help you significantly. The diet is basically a high fat and protein diet with only small amounts of carbs, and then, only complex carbs.

First, eat plenty of meats (beef, chicken, pork, fish — pretty much all animal meats) as well as organ meats and eggs as your best source of protein. Protein drinks and soy products are poor substitutes. Soy is especially not beneficial and should be avoided.

Eat plenty of healthy fats — extra virgin coconut oil, organic butter, extra virgin olive oil, lard, cod liver oil, fish oil.

As for carbs your main source should be vegetables. Eat all your vegetables steamed or raw whenever possible. Don’t juice using beets or carrots as they are high in sugar. Eat very little fruit and avoid high sugar fruits such as bananas and grapes. The best fruits are apples, berries and grapefruits.

Avoid grains as much as possible. Good grain choices would be sprouted grain products such as Ezekiel Bread, quinoa, brown rice (rice cakes) and oatmeal (no sugar). Also you can eat seeds and nuts but you should soak them first to make them more easily digestible. Soak nuts and seeds overnight then pat them dry in the morning with a paper towel to be eaten throughout the day.

What to drink — Drink plenty of filtered/purified water or herbal teas. Green drinks can be good as your body can easily absorb the nutrients. I would suggest barley grass to start with. I was very sick with candida when I first tried barley grass. It helped a lot in making me feel better almost immediately. If you don’t like green drinks you can take a chlorophyl supplement that is also excellent. (By the way I like to throw in a raw egg with my green drink. Raw eggs are very healthy and the chance of getting salmonella is very low.)

You can also drink broths, mineral water, lemonade or ice teas with stevia to sweeten them and decaffeinated coffee that uses the Swiss water process and not chemical processes.

Finally, a mineral drink that I think you will find very beneficial. Take a glass of filtered water, squeeze in half a lemon and then 1/4 teaspoon of Celtic sea salt. The lemons have essential minerals and sea salt has 84 minerals making this an excellent electrolyte drink. Drink throughout the day up to six times. Make sure you drink three of them with your meals. If you need to, sweeten the drink with stevia.

Stay away from all refined, processed and canned foods. Eat only natural foods. I call it shopping around the outside of the store — meat, fresh vegetables and fruits, eggs, etc. Also, avoid all artificial sugars such as aspartame and sucralose

The number one rule in this diet is absolutely no sugar. You can’t even drink fruit juices because of their high sugar content. One exception to drinking juice is in case of a panic attack or sudden drop in blood sugar then it is advisable to take some fruit juice diluted with water to get your blood sugar back to normal. Also avoid all starchy foods such as white bread, pastas and potato chips.

This diet may seem strange, but it works. Candida loves sugar, starches and refined foods. This diet should make you start to feel better in a short time. If you need to, you can change to this diet in stages to make it easier for you. But the sooner you are on this diet the sooner you can get better. You will have withdrawal symptoms and you will have cravings. Do your best to stick with the diet and you will be rewarded in the long run.
